India, US, Australia and Japan discuss development of digital connectivity, avoiding Chinese Huawei

On 25th September, the Foreign Ministries of India, the U.S., Australia and Japan met virtually as part of the Indo – Pacific consultations during the UN talks. They discussed Indo Pacific infrastructure and 5G to bring about more corporation in the areas of digital connectivity, to avoid giving further business to the Chinese 5G giant Huawei.

The US secretary of state Michael Pompeo has been promoting a list of companies  –  “clean telcos” – which are safe to use and have no privacy threats by the Chinese government as approved by the US administration. According to officials, there will be an in- person meeting of the ministries of the four countries in October to further discuss connectivity and infrastructure.
