Showik Chakraborty, actress Rhea Chakraborty’s brother was granted bail on Wednesday by a Special NDPS Court in Mumbai. The 24-year-old son of a former army officer has been in jail for three months. Judge GB Rao of the Special NDPS Court posted his bail for a personal bond of Rs.50,000. In association to the investigation in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead at his home in Bandra on June 14 conducted by the Narcotic’s Control Bureau, Showik Chakraborty was arrested. Since September 5, he had been in the Taloja jail as he was an accused under Section 8(c) read with Sections 20(b)(ii),22,27A,28,29 and 30 of the NDPS Act, 1985. A statement was given by Showik which revealed how the drugs were facilitated. He used to arrange the drugs through accused Abdel Parihar by accused Kaizan Ebrahim and accused Zaid Vilatra. Aides of late Sushant Singh Rajput used to receive these drugs. NCB alleges that Rhea Chakraborty who is Showik’s sister and also the co-accused had complete knowledge of these transactions. Advocate Ayaz Khan who appeared on behalf of the accused heavily relied upon the recent judgment of the Supreme Court in Tofan Singh Vs State of Tamil Nadu. In this particular judgment the confessional statements made to officers in NDPS cases are not admissible. Showik’s advocate made a submission in the court that implicated that Showik was falsely implicated. Zaid Vilatra, Anuj Keswani, Abdel Basit Parihar and Kaizen Ibrahim are the others accused in this case. On October 7, the Bombay High Court passed an order that granted to bail to Rhea and the others except Showik and Abel Parihar.
