TRP Scam Case: Sessions Court Grants Bail To Republic TV’s Assistant Vice President Ghanshyam Singh

Ghanshyam Singh, the Assistant Vice President of Republic India’s Network who was arrested on 10th November was granted bail by the City Civil and Sessions Court on 5th December which was a Saturday. He was arrested in connection to the TRP Scam Case for allegedly manipulation the ratings of the show and making it the most watched. He was granted bail on the condition of executing PB & SB of 50,000/- with one or two sureties by Additional Sessions Judge D.E. Kothalikar. Till the trial is concluded he has been asked to attend DCB, CID, Crime Branch, Kandivali, every Monday and Friday between 9a.m. to 11a.m. As per the instructions given by the Executive Magistrate, he is also asked to attend the police station for holding the Identification Parade by the Magistrate. Param Bir Singh the Mumbai Police Commissioner claimed to have busted a racquet which involved private television channels for manipulating their TRP on 8th October. A complaint was made by Hansa Research who were appointed by the BARC to track viewership in early October. The FIR was registered in Kandivali Police Station. It fell under the offences of breach of trust(409), cheating(420) and criminal conspiracy(120B) of the IPC. The Supreme Court told ARG Outlier Ltd and Goswami who were challenging the FIR to approach the Bombay High Court first. Fakt Marathi was another one of the channels which was accused in the TRP case. It’s owner, Shirish Pattanshetty was granted a bail by the City Civil and Sessions Court Judge PR Sitre on a PR bond for Rs. 50,000 in early October. On October 8, Pattanshetty was arrested and his application for bail was initially rejected by the Esplanade Court.
