Government appoints Senior Advocate K Gopalakrishna Kurup as new Advocate General of Kerala

The recently elected state government has declared senior High Court lawyer K Gopalakrishna Kurup as advocate general of Kerala. Manjeri Sreedharan Nair, the previous Director General of Prosecution, is replaced by Senior Advocate TA Shaji. 

VK Ramachandran has been officially appointed Chairman of the State Planning Board. He previously served as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Board under the previous administration. 

Gopalakrishna Kurup, a senior lawyer, was born in May 1953. On September 20, 1976, he became an Advocate.

 Mr. Kurup initiated his legal career in Kottayam courts before switching to the High Court. At the High Court, he represented the Mahatma Gandhi University, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, and the Cochin Devaswom Board. In 2010, he was promoted as a senior lawyer. He has a background in civil, criminal, and labour law cases. He has also served as a faculty member for the Kerala High Court’s Training Directorate and has provided judicial officers many academic conceptions on criminal law. He is also a representative of the All India Lawyers Union’s State Council.

Mr. Shaji completed his education at Maliankara’s S.N.M. College and Ernakulam’s Government Law College. Since 1986, he has been a lawyer in the High Court and other jurisdictions. He was promoted as a senior advocate in 2012 as a criminal law specialist.
